This eggnog French toast recipe has a mellow eggnog taste with cinnamon and nutmeg. Perfect for a Christmas brunch or breakfast.
This time of year we are wanting breakfasts to be a little more special and warm up our insides. Eggnog French toast does both of that and is a great breakfast for Christmas morning
Eggnog French toast is made with eggnog, making it a delicious and slightly different twist on the classic French toast we are all used to.
You can use homemade eggnog or a carton of eggnog from the store. Either way works.
This is the perfect breakfast to use leftover bread or even leftover eggnog. The smell of these cooking is amazing.

What type of bread to use
I suggest using a bread that is thick cut and can soak up the eggnog mixture. Some ideas would be French bread, challah, or Texas toast. Texas toast is what we used.
Try and make sure you are using old bread that is a bit dried out. It makes a better French toast.
Favorite toppings
What you want for toppings is personal preference, but some of our favorite topping for this eggnog French toast are:
* fresh berries
- maple syrup
- sprinkled with confectioners' sugar
- cut up fruit or berries - strawberries, peaches, or blueberries for example.
You can make this more of a festive breakfast with some red raspberries or strawberries for the top.
Leftovers
If you end up with leftovers of this delicious breakfast, you can cover with plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. If you want to store it longer, you can freeze it. You can either wait for the French toast to cool completely then stick in a freezer bag and store in the freezer that way. The French toast will stick to itself, but you can break it apart before reheating. Or, you can freeze each piece of French toast on a cookie sheet, then add to a freezer bag to keep them from sticking to each other.
To reheat, just take out of the fridge and either stick in the toaster or toaster oven on a low temperature for a few minutes or stick in the oven at about 250F for about 15 minutes, or until heated thorough.
Ingredients
flour
ground cinnamon
ground nutmeg
salt
eggs
eggnog
butter for greasing griddle
Texas toast or other thick bread
How to Make
Step 1: First thing is to preheat skillet or griddle on medium-low heat. Lightly grease with a tablespoon of butter.
Step 2: In a shallow baking dish - I like to use a pie plate, combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together.
Step 3: Add eggs, one at a time to flour mixture. Making sure to whisk the lumps out.
Step 4: Stir in eggnog, making sure to scrape the bottom of the dish to incorporate all the ingredients together.
Step 5: Dip a slice of bread in egg mixture, then flip so mix coats both sides of bread. Allow the excess drip off back into the dish.
Step 6: Place the slice of bread covered in eggnog mixture onto your hot griddle. Do the same to another slice of bread if there is enough room on the griddle.
Step 7: Cook until the bottom of the first side is golden brown, about 2-4 minutes, then flip bread over and cook the other side. You can add in a dollop of butter when flipping over.
Once done, move French toast to a plate and continue to cook the rest of the bread slices following steps 5-7.
