The secret to their deliciousness lies in how they're cooked, with onions and a unique steaming method that makes the beef super juicy and flavorful.
It tastes just like the fast-food favorite, but even better because you made it at home!
Whether you're cooking for a crowd or just looking for a quick and satisfying meal, these White Castle Sliders are a fantastic choice.
Ingredients for White Castle Sliders
Ground beef: We prefer 80/20 for flavor.
Water: A little water in the beef mixture helps keep the patties moist during cooking.
White onion: Finely chopped or grated. Fresh onions provide the best flavor, but you can use dried minced onions in a pinch.
Black pepper & salt: Adjust according to taste but be mindful not to overdo it, as the cheese also adds saltiness.
Worcestershire sauce: Adds a subtle depth of flavor; don't skip it. Soy sauce is a possible substitute if you're in a bind.
Oil
Slider rolls: Look for soft, mini-sized buns; they should be sturdy enough to hold the patty and the toppings without falling apart.
American cheese: Feel free to experiment with other cheeses like cheddar for a different taste.
Dill pickle chips: Pickles with a garlic or dill flavor profile work best.
How to Make White Castle Sliders
Start by chopping up an onion into tiny pieces.
In a medium saucepan, add the oil to it, and heat it over medium heat.
When it's hot, add in your chopped onion and stir it around for 3 minutes.
Next, add water and the Worcestershire sauce to the pot.
Let it simmer for 8 minutes then take it off the burner and put it to the side.
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Now, take some beef and place it between two pieces of parchment paper. Press it down until it's flat and about ¼ inch thick.
Cut your beef into 12 equal squares to make the patties.
Poke holes in each patty with something like a metal straw or the handle of a wooden spoon. This little trick helps steam the burgers just like they do at White Castle.
Spread the onion and its juice all over a shallow sheet pan.
Place your beef patties on top of the onion layer and cover them with another baking sheet flipped upside down and slide it into the oven.
Bake for 10 minutes.
While the meat patties are cooking, get your rolls ready by cutting them in half for your buns.
After 10 minutes, take your baking sheets out of the oven carefully.
Now, build your sliders: start with a bottom bun, add a beef patty, cut some cheese slices to fit, and if you like, top with a couple of pickles, ketchup, or mayonnaise. Finish it off with the top bun.
Enjoy your homemade White Castle Sliders!
Tips & Tricks to Make the Best White Castle Sliders
Here are some tips and tricks to make your homemade White Castle Sliders faster, tastier, and with fun variations:
Prep Work: Before you start, get all your ingredients ready. Chop your onions, measure out your sauces, and have your beef ready to flatten.
Onion Hack: If chopping onions is not your favorite, grab a bag of pre-chopped onions from the grocery store. They work just as well for your sliders. Or you can also stick your onion in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes to help prevent them from making you cry.
Flattening Beef: Use a rolling pin or the bottom of a pan to get your beef flat.
Freeze for Later: You can make your burger patties and freeze them before cooking. Just separate them with parchment paper. When you're ready, bake them straight from the freezer - just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
Soft Buns: If you love soft, warm buns, wrap them in aluminum foil and put them in the oven for the last few minutes of cooking. They come out perfect for sliders.
How to Store Leftover Sliders
Storing leftovers of White Castle Sliders is easy.
If you have any leftover, wrap each slider in aluminum foil or place them in an airtight container.
This keeps them fresh and stops them from drying out. Then, put them in the fridge.
They will stay good to eat for three to five days. When you're ready to eat one, you can warm it up in the microwave for a short time until it's hot.
Always check your leftover sliders before eating to make sure they still look and smell good. If anything seems off, it's better to throw it away.
