Leftovers
Store any leftover pancakes in the refrigerator with saran wrap over the top for up to 3-4 days.
If you need to keep them longer than that, you can stick the pancakes into a freezer bag (use parchment paper in between each one to prevent sticking) and place in the freezer.
Make sure your cooked pancakes are cooled to room temperature first.
Tips
Make sure to use the squeeze bottles as the squeeze bottle is the easiest way to get the shape you need.
Add in sprinkles or candy eyes to take your pancake shapes up a notch. Chocolate chips eyes are also fun with the pumpkin and ghost.
If you don't mind food coloring, you can add some orange food coloring to your batter when making the pumpkin pancakes.
You can also use your favorite recipe for the pancake mix if you prefer.
What to Serve With
So many delicious options on what to serve with these Halloween pancakes. Here are some of our favorites:
- bacon
- fruit/fruit salad
- smoothies
- sausage
- hashbrowns
Favorite Pancake Toppings
Some of our favorite pancake toppings are:
- maple syrup
- strawberry jam
- chocolate syrup
- strawberries and whipped cream
Ingredients
- pancake mix
- water
- vanilla extract
- cocoa powder
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium bowl mix part of the pancake mix with the vanilla extract and water. This makes your lighter colored pancake batter.
Step 2: In another mixing bowl, mix the remaining pancake mix, water and cocoa powder. This makes your darker colored pancake batter
3. Place a skillet on the stove on med low heat or heat griddle to 375°F. You want to give yourself time to create all the components of the pancakes. Spray lightly with oil.
4. Place batters in a kitchen squeeze bottle. It’s much easier to draw the pancakes with the bottle. You’ll want to play with how big the opening is on the bottle nozzle. The thinner the opening, the more precise the line but flow is slower. The use of lighter and darker colored batters helps with contrast.
Halloween Ghost Pancakes
Start with the cocoa batter and draw two dots for the ghost’s eyes. Alternatively, you can use chocolate chips for the eyes.
Then using the lighter batter, outline the ghost form - making an irregular ghostly shape. Then fill it in. Let it cook for a couple of minutes on the hot griddle or skillet, or until the bubbles on top are mostly popped and the underside is golden brown, then flip and cook for a few more.
Spider Web Pancake
Using the one-color batter, create 6-8 lines across the pan intersecting in the middle. Then create webbing from each linked to the next with a dip in between. Cook pancakes for 60 seconds on each side. These are more fragile when you flip.
Jack-o-Lantern Pumpkin Pancake
Start by using the cocoa batter and create the eyes and nose with triangles and an open mouth with teeth.
Then, using the lighter batter, draw a circle with a pumpkin stem at the top. Next, fill it in. Let it cook for 2 minutes then flip and cook for 90 seconds.
Happy Halloween and enjoy your spooky pancakes!
