This red velvet ice cream has heavy whipping cream, milk, cream cheese, granulated sugar, red food coloring, and red velvet cake.

What is Red Velvet Flavor?

Red velvet is typically a cake that has a chocolate flavor with hints of vanilla. It is typically topped with a cream cheese frosting. Homemade cake recipes that have a strong red velvet flavor will be high in cocoa content.

You don't have to add in the red food coloring if you don't want. It gives the ice cream a deeper pink/red color. Without the food coloring, you still get a nice, pretty pink color from the red velvet cake.

If you want more of a cream cheese flavor (this recipe includes cream cheese in the ingredients), you can frost your red velvet cake with cream cheese before crumbling it up and adding it to the ice cream mix.

Leftovers

You can store leftovers in the same container you made it in, but be aware that it will start to dry out some if it is only covered with the saran wrap or cling wrap.

If you use an airtight freezer container, the ice cream will stay fresher longer. You should be able to store this ice cream from 3 to 6 months.
