How to make

Start by making a peppermint simple syrup.

In a saucepan combine water and sugar, boiling and stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract.

In a small bowl, make a paste by mixing together cocoa powder and warm water. Transfer the paste to a coffee mug along with hot espresso and the remaining peppermint extract.

Steam milk and pour it into the mug, stirring to combine. Add one tablespoon of peppermint syrup to taste, adjusting the amount as desired.

Ingredients

  • ΒΌ cup sugar
  • ΒΌ cup water
  • 1 Β½ teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 3 Tablespoons powdered baking cocoa
  • 3 Tablespoons warm water
  • Β½ cup hot espresso
  • 1 Β½ teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 1 Β½ cups steamed milk

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, add your water and sugar to a boil. Stir well and continue to stir to prevent burning your mixture.
  • Once they have come to a boil, reduce heat to a low simmer. Wait until it is no longer boiling, then add in half of your peppermint extract (1.5 tsp). Stir well.
  • Leaving your saucepan at a low simmer, mix together your warm water and cocoa to create a paste in a small bowl.
  • Add to your paste your espresso, and remaining peppermint extract (1.5 tsp).
  • Add to your coffee mug your paste, your desired amount of syrup (I like to use 1 tablespoon), and your steamed milk. Stir and drink as is, or with whipped cream and crushed up candy canes!

Notes

Making your own peppermint syrup is simple. Store any leftover syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
