Apple Butter in the Instant Pot

Apple butter is a delicious fruit preserve made from apples and has a rich apple cinnamon flavor.

It is not actual butter, but is a thick apple paste that you spread on things like bread similar to how you'd spread butter.

It is typically made by cooking apples down to a thick paste and then spicing it with cinnamon and sometimes various other spices such as nutmeg or allspice.

How to Store Homemade Apple Butter

Keep apple butter in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

You can freeze apple butter in freezer safe containers up to a year. If you are using mason jars, make sure to leave plenty of head space, so the jars don't crack when frozen.

You can also water bath apple butter if you want to can it.

Tips

  • Use a variety of apples for the best flavor.
  • Use unpeeled apples. Not only will this cut down on the time to make it, but apple peels naturally contain pectin, which will help thicken the apple butter.
  • Make sure to cook the apples down enough that they make a thick paste.
  • If you like smooth apple butter, make sure to blend it after cooking.
