Ingredients for Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole
Egg Noodles: Cook until al dente.
Cream of Chicken Soup: You can use store-bought for convenience, but for a healthier version, consider preparing a homemade cream of chicken.
Milk: Whole milk will give the casserole a richer flavor and creamier texture. However, you can use low-fat milk if you're looking for a lighter version.
Seasonings: Salt, pepper, and paprika; feel free to adjust the amounts based on your taste preferences.
Chicken: Make sure the chicken is fully cooked before adding it to the casserole to ensure a proper cooking time.
Ham: You can use leftover ham, lunchmeat ham or the precooked hams.
Shredded Swiss Cheese: For best results, shred the cheese from a block rather than buying pre-shredded, as it will melt better.
Topping:
Melted Butter: Use unsalted butter to control the saltiness of the dish.
Parmesan Cheese: Grating it fresh right before adding it to the topping mixture can enhance its flavor.
Seasoned Bread Crumbs: You can use store-bought or make your own.

Next, add in diced chicken, ham, and shredded cheese to the bowl and stir it all together until everything is mixed well.
Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish.
Make the topping by melting the butter in a small saucepan.
Mix the butter with parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs. Sprinkle this mixture over your casserole.
Bake the casserole in the pre-heated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is slightly golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
Tips & Tricks to Make the Best Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole
Here are some tips to make this a great tasting dish as well as save some time when making it.
- Use pre-cooked chicken: Save time by using rotisserie chicken or leftovers. Chop it up and toss it in!
- Try different cheeses: Swiss cheese is classic, but you can mix it with cheddar or mozzarella for a fun twist.
- Get creative with ham: Instead of traditional slices, try chopping ham steak or using cubed ham.
- Use garlic powder: Add a dash of garlic powder to the sauce mix for extra flavor.
- Shortcut with frozen veggies: Throw in some frozen peas or carrots for color and extra nutrition. No need to thaw!
- Make it crispy: For an extra crunchy top, mix some crushed-up crackers with the bread crumbs and butter.
- Go low-carb: Swap the egg noodles for cauliflower rice or sliced zucchini for a lower-carb version.
- Make ahead: Assemble the casserole the night before and refrigerate. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
- Double up: Make two casseroles at once. Bake one for now and freeze the other for an easy meal later.
How to Store Leftovers
After you enjoy your tasty chicken cordon bleu casserole, if you find that you have leftovers, you can save it for later.
Start by letting the casserole cool down to room temperature. Then, either cover the dish with plastic wrap or transfer the leftover casserole to an airtight container. Place it in the fridge and it should stay good for about 5 days.
