Air Fryer Taco Bowl
Taco bowls are a great idea for taco Tuesdays or anytime you are craving Mexican food. This air fryer taco bowl recipe is super easy to make and delicious!
Air Fryer Taco Bowl
We love making taco salad in my house and using taco bowls as the base.
I used to buy them from a local store who sold fresh baked ones and they were so good! Except, the price keeps going up and it's now over $10 to buy taco bowls for my family of 5. Not quite in the food budget with the huge price increases.
Luckily, you can easily make taco bowls in the air fryer. And it's super easy to do!
They’re perfect for taco night, meal prepping, or serving up individual taco salads. Added bonus - they won't break the bank!
Ingredients
Burrito size tortilla: Look for soft tortillas that can easily bend without cracking.
Cooking spray: You can use a non-stick cooking spray or brush on olive oil if you prefer.
How to Make
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F. Take a large mixing bowl and place it in the air fryer basket.
Spray a burrito-size tortilla with cooking spray and carefully mold it around the bowl, allowing for some folds to create a nice shape.
Next, place a smaller mixing bowl on top of the tortilla to help hold its shape while it cooks. Cook the tortilla for about 12 minutes, or until it turns golden and crispy.
Once it’s done, let it cool for a moment before carefully removing the tortilla from the bowls.
Repeat the process for as many taco bowls as you need, and get ready to fill them with your favorite toppings!
Tips & Tricks
Choose the Right Tortilla: Choose thick, soft tortillas to prevent cracking and so they will hold their shape well.
Spray Evenly: Use cooking spray or brush oil evenly on the tortilla.
Prep Ahead: Make a batch of tortilla bowls in advance and store them, so they’re ready for quick meals during the week.
Mix It Up: Is you want, experiment with flavored tortillas, like spinach or sun-dried tomato.
Use Leftover Ingredients: Repurpose leftover meats, beans, or veggies from previous meals to save time and get those leftovers used up.
Try a Sweet Twist: For a dessert version, use cinnamon-sugar on the tortilla and fill with yogurt and fruit.
Leftovers/Storage
Store leftover tortilla bowls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
If freezing, let them cool completely, then freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid.
Transfer the frozen bowls to a freezer-safe bag or container, removing excess air, and they will last for up to three months.
To reheat, preheat the air fryer to 350°F and heat the bowls for about 5 minutes until crispy. Warm any leftover fillings in the microwave or on the stovetop.
What to Serve with Air Fryer Taco Bowl
Here are some of our favorite fillings to stick in taco bowls:
- Salsa: Fresh salsa adds a burst of flavor. Choose mild or spicy based on your taste.
- Guacamole: Creamy guacamole either homemade or store bought.
- Mexican Rice: Homemade Mexican rice is a delicious filling.
- Black Beans: Warm black beans.
- Corn Salad: Goes great in the taco bowls.
- Shredded Lettuce: Another great filling.
- Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Sour Cream: A dollop of sour cream.
- Ground Beef: Seasoned ground beef.
- Cut up Chicken: You can use rotisserie chicken or cook your own.
What if I don’t have an air fryer?
You can bake the tortilla bowls in the oven. Use a muffin tin to mold the tortillas and bake at 375°F until crispy.
How do I keep the bowls from getting soggy?
Store the fillings separately from the tortilla bowls until you’re ready to serve to keep them crispy.
