AIR FRYER APPLE BITES

We love making things with fresh apples in the fall!

These apple pie bites are the perfect treat, full of seasonal flavor

Flaky biscuit dough with cinnamon-spiced apple pie filling inside to create a unique twist on traditional pie.

By baking them in the air fryer, you can get that irresistible crispy, buttery texture without heating up the whole kitchen.

INGREDIENTS FOR AIR FRYER APPLE BITES

Ingredients: Apple Pie Filling, Butter, Biscuits, and Cinnamon.

Biscuits - Choose jumbo biscuits for more dough to wrap around the filling. Flaky, buttery biscuits work best to achieve that crusty pie texture.

Apple pie filling - Use your favorite variety or homemade filling. Cut the apples into small pieces for easier wrapping.

Unsalted Butter - Melting it makes it easy to coat the baked bites.

Sugar - White and brown sugars help sweeten the filling and coating. The cinnamon sugar mix gives a sweet crunchy topping.

Cinnamon - Adjust amount to taste.

Flour - Only needed in a small amount for dusting during assembly. All-purpose flour works well.

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER APPLE BITES

Preheat your air fryer to 350°F by turning it on to that for 3 minutes.

Open a can of jumbo biscuits and slice each biscuit horizontally to make two flat rounds.

Lightly flour a work surface and rolling pin and gently roll out each biscuit piece to about ¼ inch thick. Scoop a tablespoon of apple pie filling into the center of each flattened biscuit.

Pinch the biscuit dough up around the filling, sealing it inside. You may need to remove any excess filling.

Place the filled biscuits seam side down in a lightly greased or parchment lined air fryer basket, leaving about 1 inch between each.

Air fry for around 8 minutes at 350F until golden brown.

While the bites cook, combine sugar and cinnamon for the coating in a small bowl. Melt butter in another bowl.

When the bites are done, let them cool slightly before dunking each one in melted butter followed by the cinnamon sugar to coat.

Enjoy these tasty apple pie bites warm or let cool completely if desired. They make a wonderful portable fall treat!

TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST AIR FRYER APPLE BITES

Here are some tips for making delicious air fryer apple pie bites:

  • Cut the apple filling pieces small so they easily tuck into the biscuit center and cook through.
  • Press the biscuit dough tightly around the filling so it seals well and apples don't leak out.
  • Space the filled biscuits apart on the air fryer basket so air circulates all around for even cooking.
  • Adjust air fryer time down if the biscuits are very small or up for larger sizes. Look for golden brown.
  • Let cool briefly before coating.
  • Use a bowl with higher sides for the cinnamon-sugar to make coating easier.
  • Store any uneaten bites in an airtight container, separating layers with parchment. Reheat briefly before serving.

Leftovers

If you end up with any leftovers, allow the apple bites to cool completely before storing.

Transfer the cooled apple bites to an airtight container, plastic bag or you can also wrap in plastic wrap.

They'll store well in the fridge for 1-2 days.

You can reheat in the oven or air fryer. Avoid using the microwave though, because the dough will get soggy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans jumbo biscuits
  • 1 ½ cups apple pie filling apple cuts into small pieces (see notes)
  • ½ cup butter 1 stick
  • 1 ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Divide each biscuit in two.
  • Roll each piece of dough into a ball.
  • Lightly dust a flat surface with flour and flattened dough. The dough should be ¼” thick.
  • Take the flattened dough in the palm of your hand and using a cereal spoon, scoop about 1 tbsp bit of filling into the center of the dough.
  • Pinch two sides of the dough together and then pinch the opposite side together until the dough is pinched close around the filling, if filling comes out, there is too much filling, remove excess.
  • Repeat for all the dough.
  • Place each one into an oil-sprayed air fryer basket 1” apart and cook at 350°f for 8 minutes.
  • While cooking, mix the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Set aside.
  • Melt the butter in another bowl and set aside.
  • When finished, remove apple bites and let cool to touch.
  • Roll each apple bite in the butter, fully coating, and then roll in the cinnamon auger to fully coat.
  • Let cool for a little longer and enjoy! These taste incredible on their own or could be paired with chocolate or caramel sauce.

Notes

While the apples are still in the can (you can also transfer them to a bowl), I use a knife to sliced through the apples. It would be difficult to transfer to the cutting board because you would lose syrup.
